Campbell (or probably rather her dad and me) had a fun Halloween! Campbell was a pink poodle per request of her Aunt Emmy. We first thought maybe a ladybug and then my mom found a cute idea for Raggedy Ann, but my sister thought that idea was just too “raggedy” for Campbell. So the pink poodle costume was made and boy was it a success. We went to a few houses in our neighborhood to say hi and then we went to the “Trunk-or-Treat” at our church Christ the King Lutheran. Campbell rode in her stroller and got a lot of oohs and aahs by the other kids and adults there. It was a fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween.

The past week and a half Campbell has been practicing falling asleep in her bed for naps and I believe we’ve gotten it down. She goes to sleep without much fussing and has been staying asleep for longer lengths. I’m proud of both of us for getting this process down with little sadness and stress.

I’m truly enjoying staying home and valuing the time I have with her. I’m lucky to have lots of friends that are available during the day as well to make plans with and talk to. It’s nice to be able to focus on my time at home without all the extra stressors that come with an outside job and responsibilities. My tutor “business” is just enough to let me work with teenagers and have a little out from my new normal routine. So far, so good…she’s so special…Eric and I are both so blessed!

Eric had a work trip October 1 - 19 to India with work. The last of those days he got to spend some free time in Germany, but needless to say, he was gone a LONG time! Campbell and I spent most of that time at my parents house in Nederland and then my mom came back to Kingwood to stay with us the last few days. While we were there, Campbell had her first visit to a pumpkin patch. She was definitely the cutest pumpkin in the patch and did pretty well posing for pictures. She also turned 4 months during this time and went to her 4 month checkup. She weighed in at 14 pounds and 5 ounces and was 24.5 inches long. This was 50th percentile for weight and 60th percentile for length. I was definitely happy to have the help and the company of my mom and day. Campbell enjoyed spending time with her Mia and Poppa as well.

We were both very happy to pick Eric up at the airport and Campbell gave him a big smile when she saw him. He was able to stay home with us the next two days to adjust being back in the states and she studied him hard every time he was around. Once he started giving her baths again and singing “Splish Splash I Was Taking A Bath”, she knew just who was back…daddy! He then had to turn around and take a quick trip to El Paso for one night, but hopefully he is here to stay for a while…unless they want to send him to San Diego again…I think we might go with him on that one!

This past weekend we spent at Eric’s dad’s house in Sealy. His dad and wife hadn’t seen Campbell in a while and man they thought she was big! We enjoyed spending the weekend there and Eric was able to help his dad with some repairs and jobs around the house and at the ranch. Campbell got some time in with the tractor as well. She immediately reached for the wheel like she was driving. Grandpa turned the tractor on and it didn’t scare her in the least…we weren’t ready to take a spin…yet.

Hopefully we’ll now get back into a groove of being all together again. We missed him a lot!

After Campbell’s baptism, Hurricane Ike rolled in and upset our normal life for a little while. Campbell adapted fine to sleeping in a diaper with no swaddle and really had no idea that anything wasn’t normal. Her bathtime by flashlight might have confused her a little, but it was probably a nice treat from the heat and stillness. Our neighbors were wonderful and invited us over each night to enjoy their generator that provided air conditioning and TV. This allowed us to wind down for the night.

Luckily the weekend that the temperature started to increase we had a family wedding to go to in Bryan. My cousin Ryan Ewing married Megan Davis so we already had a hotel room reserved and a treat it was. We enjoyed the rehearsal dinner, ladies lunch, and wedding all with my dad’s family. Campbell was a trooper during all events and adjusted to her later bedtime. Everyone thought she was cute of course!

In the meantime, Campbell turned 3 months old. When the weather changed the first week after the hurricane, she got allergies like everyone else. However, there is no treatment for anyone under 6 months old except some “Little Noses” saline drops that seemed to help. She ended getting her weight checked and came out 13 pounds and one ounce!

Campbell was baptized this past Sunday! What a wonderful day and she looked absolutely beautiful in the gown my mom made her. It was a very special moment to share her with our church, family, and friends as she became God’s special child. It was also special to be able to say that we will do our absolute best to raise her in a Christian home and make God the center of our family. We had lunch at our home afterwards and had a good turn out. I was also proud of my party favors…a cross cookie cutter! It was our first “event” celebrating a milestone in Campbell’s life and turn-out a lot of fun and relatively stress-free…thanks to HEB and Kroger I had a wonderful time planning from the invitations to party favors and hope Campbell can look back at the memories we captured to be reminded of her special day.

Earlier that week, Campbell went to the church nursery for the first time. I finally am able to attend a during the day Bible Study at our church and it seems a good way to introduce Campbell to the church nursery while there are not that many other kids there. I didn’t know they got “reports” when you pick them up, but Campbell had a wonderful report. She had happy, friendly, and busy checked on her sheet and got rave reviews from the nursery workers about what a good baby she is! Well, of course!
The study is of Proverbs by Beth Moore and the first session was great. I’m going to look forward to this every week and feel good that Campbell is doing well at the nursery.

I also started tutoring this past week. I have three students on Wednesday nights. It was actually enjoyable to be able to work with them individually and I felt that I did some good. It’s even nicer to sit and do math problems in the evening when you haven’t been doing them all day. Tutoring is a pretty good little business…if you can call it that…

This past Monday Campbell was 2 months old. She weighed 10 pounds and 12 ounces and was 22 5/8 inches in length. This put her in the 50th percentile for both weight and length. My parents were in town after picking them up at the airport from a trip to Las Vegas so while my mom went with my sister around town, my dad came with Campbell and I to the doctor. The nurse thought we were her parents. My dad thinks we confused Dr. Leach as well, but he never asked. She continues to do everything well in the areas of eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom. She also continues to work on holding her head up and performed well when Dr. Leach put her on her stomach. She got 4 shots and 1 oral vaccine. She of course didn’t like that too much and was a little cranky that afternoon but was back to her normal self the next day.

In the meantime, we’ve had a leak from the air conditioner that soaked the carpet by Campbell’s room. So we called our favorite handyman Sergio and got it fixed. We like Sergio!!! Campbell however has slept that past two nights in her pack-n-play in our bedroom. For some reason, I’ve kind of liked having her close by. Tonight she will probably go back to her room. I’m going to update the pics with some two month shots.

Campbell is now seven weeks old. We have since made trips to Sealy to see Eric’s dad and his wife as well as our annual trip to Crystal Beach to spend with my parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She continues to sleep and eat well (thanks to the Miracle Blanket and Mylicon drops) and enjoys stretching, smiling, being held, and playing on her play mat. We continue to have little outings here and there and visitors that come by. Eric’s had to travel some and has some upcoming trips planned as well. We’re lucky that Aunt Emmy is moving to Kingwood this week and will be able to spend time with us and help out with Campbell while Daddy is gone. We all think this is great! Bath time is finally getting a little better. She is getting used to being in the water and likes the water being poured on her body. She begins to cry when the soap has to begin and the water touches her head. Once she’s out and dry, she is one happy and calm baby!

This is the time that Campbell has let us sleep till for three nights this past week! Although we’ve gotten our hopes up that this is her new pattern, it has not been consistent. It’s kind of a little surprise each night to see what she will do. This past week we went back to the doctor and she has grown past her birth weight now to 8 pounds and 12 ounces. She also had her one month birthday on Friday…I’ve already gotten a little sad that she is getting bigger and older.

The weekend of the Fourth we took our first overnight trip to Poppa and Mia’s house in Nederland. My mom (Mia) bribed us with fried shrimp and some sleep so off we went. It was nice to visit and have multiple people take care of Campbell. Eric and I were able to go out to eat and to the movies one night as well. Campbell slept well in the different location and was her usual sweet self.

We also have made the progression to her big bathtub since her cord has finally fallen out. She did NOT like this at all the first time and neither did her mommy. Eric said we didn’t need two babies in the house :) The second night was a little better for both of us. We’re hoping she will come to like this over time.

We also continue to have visitors come over which make the day a little brighter. We’ve also gotten out for a few car and stroller rides as well. We have a few outings set up for this week too. Overall the first month has been pretty good. She truly is a joy!

Eric has taken the past week off to spend time with Campbell. We’ve had a good week. We’ve had wonderful meals from our church family and friends that have made the past two weeks special as well. We are very thankful and appreciative more than you know. Monday was kind of a plain day of staying home and getting acclamated to Campbell’s habits and routines. Tuesday, we had a visit from Eric’s dad and godparents. Thursday was a big day with Campbell’s first photo shoot. We chose Chubby Foot Photography and was very pleased with our results. You can check out a preview at http://www.chubbyfoot.com/Recent/2008/062008/062008CampbellWEB2/index.htm We also had a doctor’s appointment that afternoon. It had rained pretty hard prior to the appointment and the lights were out at the doctor’s office. We had the beginning of her appointment by the little bit of light from a window and a lantern, but then the lights came back on to finish up with a heel prick and lots of crying. She hadn’t gained any weight which was a little alarming so we go back for a weight check in a week. Friday, we tried the grocery store for the first time. I figured we needed to test it out with two people present before I tried it solo. Don’t know if I’ll be attempting that again. I can’t really find a good option for putting her carrier in the cart and feeling comfortable with her safety. We might just have to wait till she can sit up in the front and go to the store at night or on weekends for now! We’ve also tried new things such as stroller rides around the block and putting her in the swing. Both of these she is quite fond of! Her belly button cord finally fell off Saturday. We’ll have to advance to baths in the little tub now. Nights haven’t been too bad…we’ll see how Eric does or if we’ll have to readjust our current shifts with him going back to work. Eric’s been a wonderful father and help to me this week…we’ll see how I do by myself :0
