It’s not old…it’s vintage…or retro.

Without a doubt, Smashing Magazine is my favorite daily blog read for fantastic inspirational posts that cover all venues of design in the world as we know it.  Their latest post is definitely near and dear to my heart as I am rather fund of retro and vintage stylings of things in our modern world.

This is a rad display of some great web designs that do a nice job of adhering to styles of old.  If nothing else, this is one of the more fun galleries they have had recently. It is chock full of quality work, and even if vintage/retro is not your personal taste it is well worth a look.  Quality work is quality work, whether you like it personally or not! Enjoy this free dose of inspiration…

Developing Unplugged

Web, Wordpress 1 Comment »

So here is my new little gem that I have been using as of late.  With a pretty crazy development schedule over the next couple of months, I have been looking for a very simple solution to keep things running locally.   There are several ways to go about keeping a server live, but this is by far the most simple solution.

MAMP [ Macintosh, Apache, Mysql and PHP ]

Download the rather beefy download (130 MB) and just drag it into your Applications folder, and you are ready to roll.  And yes, this is a Mac only treat.  If you are not in the club, I am sorry, but you had a choice…and you bought a PC.

Whether you are wanting to develop web projects locally, or maybe just run a Wordpress install on your computer for journalling purposes, this is a great free tool to check out.

Get MAMP.

Smart + Intuitive = Wordpress 2.6

Wordpress 2.6 has been out for a little bit, so I finally took some time to check out the updates and changes.  If no one has told you yet, it is awesome!  They have really put together a nice release.  They keep adding all the stuff you want, and nothing that you don’t.

The guys at Autommatic just get it.  They understand how to create a intuitive and smart platform that is as powerful as you want to make it.  Check out the new feature video below, then go get the new version installed on your site stat!

From the folks who started the Wordpress movement, comes another amazing piece of open source goodness.  Automattic has just released a new app for your iPhone or iPod touch that allows you to do all of your blogging from where ever you have internet access.  I was having a conversation just the other day with a friend about his need for a great mobile blogging solution.  Well here it is…

Now that you have see what it can do, you should go check it out for yourself. [assuming of course, that you have the proper hardware to take advantage of this great new tool]

Google Analytics for Wordpress

I have been dealing with stat tracking issues lately with a few friends as well a client or two.  Here is a great solution for those of you out there who have a Wordpress driven site, and want to have an easy way to implement Google Analytics.

Google Analytics for Wordpress

This is the ticket.  One easy plugin that will do all the dirty work for you when wanting to add Google’s awesome stat tracking to your Wordpress site.

Just follow the simple installation instructions and you are set to roll!  It could not be much easier than this.

You will want to hug the guy who created this plugin once you see how easy it is.  Enjoy.
